Humo Blanco is a restaurant brand.

Its visual identity and pre-launch strategy were developed to introduce a more contemporary, distinctive presence to Barrio Antiguo, offering an alternative to the existing restaurant scene while remaining connected to the character and history of the area. With the name already established, the project began before the restaurant itself existed, working with only a name, an interior moodboard, and a menu as the starting points for building a brand and creating anticipation around an as-yet-unrevealed space.

The concept centered on mystery, drawing inspiration from Barrio Antiguo’s hidden history and the layers of the city’s past that often go unnoticed. Rather than treating the neighborhood merely as a setting, the campaign sought to encourage people to rediscover it, uncovering stories, places, and cultural references that could reconnect audiences with Monterrey’s identity. This sense of discovery became the foundation of the visual language and pre-launch strategy, using intrigue as a way to introduce the restaurant before its doors had even opened.

Advised by Rolando Angulo Gálvez, the project translated this concept into a cohesive visual identity and a series of pop-up experiences throughout Barrio Antiguo. Cocktails, appetizers, menus, posters, and invitations to the launch event acted as subtle encounters with Humo Blanco’s world, offering audiences a visual and literal taste of what was to come. Each intervention functioned as a discreet, mysterious signal designed to spark curiosity, generate visibility, and encourage conversation, allowing the brand to begin establishing a presence without relying on a physical restaurant.

Beyond positioning Humo Blanco as a modern addition to the area, the strategy also explored how collaboration could create a greater sense of unity within Barrio Antiguo and the wider city. By engaging with different locations and cultural touchpoints, the campaign aimed to contribute to a shared neighborhood identity rather than operate as an isolated brand experience.

The project encompassed the development of the visual identity, pre-launch marketing strategy, custom uniforms, and branded packaging. Together, these elements extended the brand across multiple touchpoints, balancing a contemporary aesthetic with the area's historic character and a more personal, approachable spirit. The result was a pre-launch campaign that transformed the absence of a physical restaurant into an opportunity: building anticipation around Humo Blanco while inviting audiences to look more closely at the neighborhood and the history beneath its surface.

This project won "Best Creative & Innovative Solution" & "Best Project Overall" as voted on at UDEM by porfessors and exhibition guests.
